From Caernest

This site was built solely for the creation, development and containment of all things "Kaernest".

Kaernest was the brain child of Sergio Pedro and Richard Hewett back in 2002. We had the idea to create our own game system, and along with it our own original world. Things have changed quite a bit from then, and it's fun to look back at some of the ideas we've had. We've considered (both together and individually) publishing the Kaernest game system (and/or setting) on multiple occasions, but each time it comes down to the fact that we're in no real hurry to finish. To some degree, the "hunt" has been as much fun as playing in the versions that we've gone through.
Today, Kaernest is mostly the product of Rich Hewett, but I still keep in touch with Sergio and we often sit and discuss game design and mechanics. The last time Sergio ran something that was supposed to be using "our" system, I could recognize it, but it was 2 or 3 versions ago from where I'm at. My setting has no resemblance to what Sergio is running these days; his is much more "conventional" fantasy. That's not to say our Gaming together still has a strong effect on which direction I take the setting and system that I'm working on.
Sergio continues to develop his own system and setting, although his (to my knowledge) doesn't have a name, and his setting looks nothing like the Kaernest here. Our systems may have some similarities however.
Both of us enjoy more than one aspect of gaming. I wouldn't call us "Rules Lawyers", "Role Players", "Min-Maxers", "Tacticians" or "Story Tellers". If I had to give a name to our style of role-playing, I'd call it "Socialists"; we game to spend time with Friends. To us it's more about having fun with friends, and using our Geenyus brains, than it is about winning, losing, or being the "perfect player".

Artist Wanted

I'm looking for an artist. I need someone who can draw sketches and paint either as digital art, or that I can convert to digital art for this site. Knowledge of cultures and anatomy are a plus. Much of the drawings/art will be fantasy based, but mostly original (no elves and dwarves; Verdanni and Dazhdvog instead). Ability to help develop and design is a requirement, as is the ability to deal with someone who has a vision that I need to bring out of my head. This site isn't solely about role-playing. There's a few pages here that are "off topic" (I can do that. It's my site.) and a few that are role-playing oriented, but have nothing to do with Kaernest (again, I pay the hosting bill, it's my right). Some parts of this may seem more like a blog than a wiki, but I'm not a "stay within the lines" kinda person.
